CHARITY FOOTBALL MATCH

As a club based in the heart of our town and working for the people of our town , we also look to help with other like-minded groups on a wider spectrum. Football has an impactful sport with the ability to reach and help so many and we work to help national charities who are influential in our town.

August 29th 2026 saw the 2nd year of a highly enjoyable and hugely successful charity game . What could be better than pitching two teams who think they know football and now having to show it on the pitch. A team made up of people who play the computer game Football Manager and stream their progress on video sharing platforms against a team who support their club every week but secretly believe they can do better. Yes it’s the FM content creators vs Slough Town supporters team in a match that has different rules, different physiques and very much different skill abilities.

For a second year these two teams have come together to raise money and awareness of a charity and this year it was Alzheimer’s Society as the chosen cause. Build up before has seen 24 hour streams, endless banter between the teams and even practice and tactics sessions yet the match is played in a brilliant friendly atmosphere with the fun almost outweighing the outcome.

Rule changes in the game include

•Fancy dress substitution where one player in each half for each team dresses in a fancy dress costume and goals count double if this player scored.
•Triple substitution where the opposing manager can take off 3 opposition players for 10 minutes.
•Lap of honour for anyone scoring a goal in the match
And this year a fantastic rule change based on Alzheimer’s where, instead of a hydration break, we have a get to know your opponent break, stopping to introduce yourself to your nearest opponent.

What truly amazes me are the people who travel to attend or participate in this game, some travelling from Europe to show their support. They come down for a few days, enjoy the game , watch Slough Town and then join together for a few drinks after, all united in raising funds for a worthwhile cause.

Whilst the score is not important, well actually it is as the game finished 2-2 with the Slough fans winning on penalties and the home fans would not forgive me if I didn’t put the score in, the occasion continues to produce football and friendship and memories that will last forever.

A huge thanks to Connor McNeish and WhyCallum , without them we could not have done it and also to everyone who has donated, we just cannot thank you enough.

Will there be a chance for revenge for the FM creators, definitely.
